BRIDGEPORT, CT - April 26, 2001- The Honorable Governor
John Rowland of Connecticut, and many other state
and local government officials visited Prime Resources
on Thursday, April 26, 2001 to announce the construction
of Prime's planned 200,000 square foot facility in
the heart of the Bridgeport's downtown revitalization.
After mingling with Prime employees and talking briefly
with television and radio news crews, Governor Rowland
spoke from a podium at the front entrance of the Prime
building on a warm, sunny Spring day. Rowland addressed
the assembled crowd of dignitaries and Prime employees,
"This is a great day for the state because this is
another successful story of a company growing at a
tremendous pace, and expanding, and offering opportunities
located in one of our major cities. That's the best
thing that could happen to us in an economic development
standpoint."
Jerry Russo, Prime's C.O.O. thanked state and city
officials for creating the program that made it possible
for Prime's incredible growth to continue in the city
of Bridgeport. Russo said, "This couldn't have happened
without the support of the Governor's Office, Department
of Economic & Community Development, the Mayor's office,
and the city's economic development staff. It's a
big step forward for Prime Resources, and we feel
that it will set the stage for further economic development
and investment in our community."
Russo continued, "Not only was Prime recently recognized
as one of the state's 10 fastest growing privately-held
inner-city based companies, but tonight we will be
honored in Boston with a national award for being
one of the top 100 in the nation." Russo also thanked
everyone at Prime for their part in winning so many
industry awards in recent years, including the 2001
ASI Spirit Award for Best Customer Service Team, and
the PPAI Silver Supplier Web Award. He also made it
a point to thank the company's loyal distributors
for over 20 years of support.
The new facility will allow all of Prime's employees
to work from one location, since several departments
now work from a separate office near the main building.
It will also provide room for anticipated future growth
needs for office, production and warehouse space.
Governor Rowland and all the other visitors toured
the current facility, which included Rowland expertly
imprinting some stress balls. He also visited with
Prime's Kennedy Center employees, developmentally
challenged individuals who, with the assistance of
a full-time, on-site coach and Prime's production
supervisors, work in the assembly department.
Prime's winning of Connecticut's Inner City 10 Award
was cited in the April issue of Connecticut Business
Magazine. The National Inner City 100 was featured
in the May issue of Inc. Magazine.
